ImagineIT Spring Timeline:
Looking back on my fall reflection, there are several areas where the project can still grow. By creating a timeline of implementation, I will have a clearer roadmap of where I am going. I have implemented various aspects of my original plan and modified other parts. First, I need to check in with the students and have them reflect on the semester: what worked, what needs be adjusted, what they want clarification on, etc. Once the students reflect, I will modify my action plan where appropriate. The main focus for this semester is redefining mistake vs misconception in order to focus on the misconception portion of the plan. Mistakes will still be celebrated but misconceptions need to be analyzed in order to clarify understanding and lay a solid foundation for learning.
After the Spring Update #1, we will begin our exploration of a misconception; then, creating and sharing our new understanding. Each student will choose his or her own concept to study. This will be more indepth than our weekly My Favorite Mistake activity and students will share their understandings with others besides the teacher. Before the Spring Update #2, students will take video and/or photos of where mathematics is seen in the real world. I want the students to think outside the box and reflect on the beauty of nature and human creations. I hope by analyzing misconceptions and then connecting to the real world of mathematics that I will spark greater wonder in my students.
After the Spring Update #2, I will focus on Pi Day Celebrations and Tech Talk. Last year, I implemented a Pi Day Celebration with activities like Pin the Radius on the Circle and a staff pie eating contest. This year I want students and other teachers to run the activities giving others the chance to grow. With Tech Talk, I will focus on one or two key takeaways that I can implement right away and gather other ideas for next school year. After the Final ImagineIT Report, this summer will focus on exploring, creating and sharing with my family in order to be rejuvenated for next year.
